Foundational Stage in the New Education Policy- NEP 2020

Foundational Stage in the New Education Policy

The NEP 2020 is built on the foundational pillars of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability. The New Education Policy emphasizes to ensure universal access to high-quality ECCE across the country in a phased manner. The new school structure by NEP2020 includes the newly added Foundational Stage for the first five years of the school life i.e. ages three to five years. This subsumes the first two years of the erstwhile primary stage. Therefore, the Foundational Stage comprises of three years of pre-primary i.e. Nursery, Junior KG and Senior KG along with the two years of primary i.e. Classes I & II.

Vision of ECCE:

‘ECCE ideally consists of flexible, multifaceted, multilevel, play-based, activity-based, and discovery-based learning about, e.g., alphabets, languages, numbers, counting, colours, shapes, indoor and outdoor play, puzzles and logical thinking, problem solving, drawing/painting and other visual art, craft, drama and puppetry, music and movement.’- NEP2020

Expanding this vision, Sattva Vikas School takes care that children in their foundational years are given full freedom to explore their surroundings and learn at their own pace. Ample care is taken that their talents and interests are nurtured and motivated for ‘Out of the Box’ thinking. The Multifaceted learning approach is implemented wherein the 3R’s of learning-Reading, Writing and Arithmetic are given justice. The designing of the core curriculum of the foundational years integrates the 5C’s- communication skills, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and character building. Sattva Campus enables uninterrupted exploration, play and learning. Sattva corridors and outdoor spaces are valued just as highly as formal classrooms, and the designing of this space allows our Sattvites to move freely between the two and have free access to stimulating resources, as they cannot be the owner of their learning journey without this.

Sattva Vikas Best CBSE School in Ahmedabad aims to ensure that our Sattvites feel safe, secure, accepted and respected, have good and balanced nutrition, inculcate healthy habits, hygiene practices, develop self-help skills and sound language. Emphasis is laid upon skills of communication and expression and discovery-based learning. During the Early childhood education, Sattva mentors provide crucial stimulation and guidance during the time in which a child’s brain is forming faster than any other period of life. These are the formative years when the foundation for physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and language development is laid. Sattva Classrooms ensure optimum physical and motor development of children as per their potential, foster sensory and cognitive abilities of children by providing engaging, participative and stimulating activities. It also promotes development of pre-social skills and social competence along with children’s emotional wellbeing and prepares children for formal learning in the school.

Sattva Classroom reinforces the use of mother tongue as the medium of instruction in the early years so that language facilitates learning and not become an impediment to it. When mother tongue is the medium of instruction it helps children learn other languages easily and develops a well-defined personal, social, and cultural identity. Sattva educators remain bilingual by using child’s home and local language in the class. We have laid foundations of holistic, fun-filled, stress-free, uniform, child-centered learning for all early learners of foundational stage.
